Startup Idea: Enhanced Reservation Management Software
I have a part time position as a server in a fine dining restaurant. The restaurant is very popular and typically requires a reservation several weeks in advance.
We currently use Open Table to manage our reservations through a link on our website, however there are features of it that are problematic and that I would like to see improved. Because the venue is popular, I reservation slots are snapped up fairly quickly.
However, I would say that ~20% of our reservations never show up. I believe that people book several time slots (or book at several different restaurants) and then make up their mind after the fact as to whether they will use the reservation they booked.
I would like to have some kind of technological solution to make people more accountable - say, have them provide a credit card when reserving, so that they would be more likely to actually show.
It would be great if we could give feed back to Open Table about no-shows (and even if all restaurants could compile the same data and share the info) so that we could prioritize patrons with good track records over the flakes.
I've voiced my concerns to management, and as far as I can tell they agree with me, however they haven't found a better option out there.
