Startup Idea: Digital Schedule Management Tool for Caregivers of Disabled Individuals
I am a stay at home mom of a child with disabilities. In the past I have worked full time out of the home working with other children with disabilities.
During this time I have seen many people struggle with staying organized while caring for these individuals. Due to this disorganization, families struggle to get simple tasks done, such as grocery shopping or getting to doctor appointments.
It can put a huge burden on the parent or caregiver who is the primary carer trying to juggle the needs of the disabled, as well as the needs to others at home, services at home and in clinic based locations. A tool that caregivers try to implement is the use of a visual schedule to try to stay organized.
The problem with this is situations can arise that would cause the schedule to change very rapidly causing it to never stay the same. Also, some of the children I've worked with use a schedule to feel safe. They rely on them for everyday situations.
A solution to this problem would be software that can be used on various form of media (computers, smartphones, iPads, etc.) that would allow caregivers to quickly change a schedule to stay on track as the day goes on. It would allow less use of paper to print out schedules and it can be taken on the go.
As a mom and a professional I've used many applications to help not only my child and families, but others as well. Many of these applications are paid for with monthly or yearly subscriptions. I would definitely pay for such an application if it helped me simplify our lives and cut down on time spent scheduling.
I have searched for options like this and I have yet to find a good solution. I usually end up taking a few forms of media and mashing them together. I've searched terms such as scheduler, PEC schedule, visual schedule or ASD schedule.
