Startup Idea: Designer-Friendly Charting Software
I work as a graphic designer, and I specialize in data-heavy information graphics. My design work often incorporates different types of charts (bar, pie, and line charts, among others).
However, currently there is no designer-friendly charting software on the market. I sometimes use Microsoft Excel to format charts, but the visuals are not aesthetically pleasing enough to be incorporated into contemporary, well-designed graphics.
I typically use Adobe Illustrator, which is the design industry standard for charting. However, even this program is lacking in options.
The charting function in Illustrator is extremely limited and very glitchy; Adobe hasn't changed or improved it in any of the software versions released in the last 10 years, and has no plans to do so in the near future (my Art Director spoke with an Adobe representative to confirm this).
Information graphics and visuals are becoming an integral part of businesses and advertising, and info-graphics are quickly becoming mainstream (Google "info-graphic" for examples), but the current software is insufficient for us to keep up with the demand.
I have researched different options, but nothing exists that is geared toward design/aesthetics. Everything is geared toward analytics and tracking.
