Startup Idea: Animal Breeding Management App
I have a small cattery (cat breeding facility) and we also raise heritage goats, chickens, and pigs. There are a lot of other people in online communities that I participate in who also raise these animals. There are certain generic traits that are important to monitor in order to get a healthy and desirable animal, but there isn't really any software that monitors these traits.
For example, the manx gene (tailless cats) is a dominant gene, and will show in 50% of any given litter with one manx parent. A double dominant gene will kill the kitten, so you shouldn't breed 2 tailless cats. The same is true with dwarf and Scottish Fold breeding. That's somewhat easy, but it's something that you need to keep track of. Coat color is way more complicated, with recessive traits and dominant traits that control what color will be expressed in the kitten. Two black cats can have pointed blue kittens of they have the right recessive genes.
When you're planning a breeding program it's a pain in the butt to remember everything about each cat, and to calculate the chance that your litter will have specific features. If there was an app where you could enter your cats information with pictures and then predict the litter that they would have it would be amazing. Especially if it also kept track of lineage so you could make sure you weren't inbreeding unless it's on purpose to set traits.
This would be useful for dogs breeders, and people who breed other animals. There are some apps that keep track of the lineage of your animals, but nothing combines lineage and generic traits. It could also hold veterinary test results for the animals, and pictures of offspring from each cross under the parent's info. I've looked it up and there are some websites but they're hard to use and don't store your data.
