Startup Idea: Smart Shelf for Automated Retail Price Updating
I work in a retail store. One idea I have had that would make life a lot easier for us would include both hardware and software innovation.
Ok, here it is: every week there are price changes in thousands of items across the store. Be it inflation, promotional offers, or clearance prices; almost every item in every store will experience a price change at least once a year, and as frequently as once a week.
Rather than spending the many valuable man hours printing the new labels/signage, hunting the items, and replacing said sigange-- man hours that would much better be spent interfacing with customers-- there could/should be an industry standard smart shelf that changes the price automatically when the store/company changes the price.
The exact area of the store that the item is merchandised will be programmed into the software and an LED "label" will display the price.
When that price changes, the LED "label" will automatically change.
