Startup Idea: Wood Processing Optimization Software

Startup idea to develop a software that can predict the types of parts that can be obtained from different types of lumber. The software would also help determine the profitability of using lower grade lumber and assess waste generation. It should allow tracking through the mill with predictions being compared to actual turn out.

I work for a wood processing plant. Specifically we make wood parts for things like window treatments and trim from rough lumber.

It would be great it there was some type of software that could predict the type of parts that you can get from different types of lumber.

This could include the amount of waste that is generated and if it were profitable to use a lower grade lumber. It would be nice to track this through the mill with predictions being compared to actual turn out. I did internet searches with no results.
