Startup Idea: Construction Project Completion Tracking Software
I work in the Architecture/Engineering/Construction industry. (Currently working for an architecture firm)
A critical part of the Construction Administration phase of a project is determining whether a project has achieved "substantial completion." A checklist with unresolved items (punch list) is provided by the contractor at this stage, and the architect will then visit the project site and observe whether these aspects of the project have been executed in accordance with contract documents.
For large projects (multifamily residential, hotels etc.) this can be a very tedious process, with lots of employees checking individual rooms and units against printed drawings, taking photos of problematic areas, and making notes on clipboards that later have to be scanned.
A software that would allow firms to track comments and complete/incomplete on these punchlists, compile associated photos, and refer to contract documents digitally in the field would definitely save a great deal of time and effort, and also prevent important information from being lost.
We have tried doing this using small laptops with excel sheets, but those are still not convenient to carry around a construction site. It would be great to upload lists directly using a tablet or phone.
