Startup Idea: Integrated Writing Software for Both Planning and Writing Tasks

Summary for idea #633
Startup idea to develop a comprehensive writing software that bridges the gap between planning and executing. The software would enable writers to efficiently incorporate their outlines, access character/scene descriptions, while writing and offer dedicated features for script and poetry writing. Custom features like line-count, shortcuts for names, and dockable Menus are desired. This tool addresses a conspicuous void in existing solutions.

I dabble in various creative industries that require writing prose and/or scripts daily. I've been writing commercially for over six years; this includes ghost writing (articles, books, etc.), creating dialogue for indie games, and writing novels / poetry / short stories.

Writing has two hard parts: the planning and the "sit down and do it." Each of these issues has its own solutions. For planning, you can use software like EverNote or Scribd or Scrivener, or dozens of other writing tools. For "doing it," you can use WriteOrDie or various copycat sites and apps.

But none of these solutions allow you to quickly reference plans while writing. In addition, very few of these solutions have support for script writing or poetry.

I would love to see a WriteOrDie-type software that incorporates planning features. Like WoD, it would track your speed in short sessions and enforce the chosen punishment when writers get distracted. But in addition, users would be able to progress along their outline and reference their planning as they write. Character and scene information would be accessible while writing (not all at the same time -- maybe through a dockable menu?). It would integrate shortcuts for quickly typing names (for script writing) and line-count features (for poetry).

This is a tool I would definitely pay for, as would many others. The writing industry is massive right now and incredibly thirsty for anything that can simplify the process. I've dug through just about every (English) writing software there is and have not yet found a solution. I can't recall any specific search terms, but I've seen everything from websites, to apps, to software old and new. It really seems to be a blind spot in the industry.
