Startup Idea: Vinyl Record Recommendation Software

Startup idea to develop a software that helps vinyl record collectors grow their collection. Users could input their current collection into a database, rate each record on several attributes and receive nuanced, less obvious recommendations on further purchases, stepping beyond rudimentary artist-based or period-based suggestions.

I would love for software to help me grow my vinyl record collection. I know this is not business related, so I hope it is still relevant to your inquiry.

As a relatively new collector, I do a lot of digging for old records, and so I have been exposed to many artists and styles that I would not normally have purchased or even listened to.

But now I would love to be able to input my current collection into a database, and rate each record on a few attributes, and get some accurate recommendations on further purchases.

I don't mean obvious ones, such as more from the same artists. I mean something that is more like what an old guy in a record store might recommend after getting to know me after a few visits.

Most of the online music recommendation sites just spit out obvious things. For example, if I like a Blondie record, they will just suggest a billion female fronted groups no matter what their sound.

Or they will just pick things from that exact same time period.

But I'm looking for something deeper than that. Perhaps if I like a certain Blondie record, there is a cool jazz or blues record from the 1950s that I would find interesting. I'm looking for something like that. I have, but usually just end up frustrated. For example, using All Music Guide, or Spotify, just brings up obvious and tired results.
