Startup Idea: Simplified Data Collection App for Forest Management

Startup idea to create a mobile application focused towards forest land managers that captures and analyzes data related to tree growth. The goal is to provide a simpler and cost-effective alternative to current overly complex, feature-loaded solutions.

I work in the forest industry as a land manager. I oversee the management of approximately 35,000 acres of land. In the management of this land we have to collect and analyze specific data in relation to what is growing on the property. In specific we need to gather precise data on trees.

This data would include age, species, species class, product type, community type, basal area, growth, etc.

Software developed would need to be run off a hand held unit with GPS capability (phone, tablet, etc). This is important in the actual collection of the data.

There are currently options out there that do this but all seem to be overly bloated offering many features that are just not needed. These features increase the complexity and cost unnecessarily. They tend to be overly complex and offer much more than I, and I imagine most land mangers need.
