Startup Idea: Startup idea for importing CAD files as 3D mesh
I work in a field doing a mixture of work for Architecture. Mainly 3D visualization, and Illustration. I work mainly within a program called sketchup, it would make my work much easier, if CAD files (imagine 2d drawings with measurements) , which are generally used in AutoCAD and similar programs could be imported as a 3D mesh. lets say you have the floor plans for a house, along with the elevations (side views) a lot of my work involves looking at both of these 2D images to create a 3D representation. but what if you had CAD for every view of the house (floors, sides, etc) and Sketchup could import those files to create a 3D mesh of the house with minimal work involved.
I enjoy the creative part of my work (Illustration) but turning linework into 3D models is a large pain and extremely complicated. The exact solution to this problem wouldn't be very easy for developers, but i'm sure its possible. lets say you input each of the CAD files for four sides of a house, along with the floor plans, and use the software to develop a general 3D model of the house, with later adjustments becoming more and more exact. That would help increase my workflow, and save me a lot of time. There isn't anything like this out there, but i'm sure with time. Now I solve this problem now by doing every small detail by hand. Also I know that something like this should be left to the creators of the project, and is probably too large of a task for people without knowledge of the specific software, and the scope of the idea. thanks for listening.
