Startup Idea: Circuit Board Layout Optimization Software

Startup idea to develop software capable of optimizing the layout of devices and wires on a motherboard, with particular focus on reducing space, making efficient wiring, and increasing accessibility. This would be a major time-saving tool for hardware engineers dealing with complex circuitry.

I am a graduate student in engineering, working at the interface of software and hardware. A lot of my research involves prototyping circuits on motherboards. I typically use upwards of 20 devices, including microprocessors, wires, transistors, op-amps, resistors, etc... The layout can get very complicated very quickly. This makes for difficult debugging, as wires cross each other all the time, and it's easy to forget where something was supposed to go if it accidentally falls out. Furthermore, we are trying to design lightweight devices, so it would be best to save on space.

Currently, I am optimizing the layout manually, on paper. This takes tons of trial and error. If there were software that could optimize the layout of my devices and wires on the motherboard for me, I would definitely pay for that. Layout options to minimize space used or wiring used or to maximize accessibility would be splendid. It would save so much time and frustration if layouts were organized, simple, and understandable.
