Startup Idea: Modular-Based Reporting Tool for Non-Financial Professionals
I work as a financial analyst in the legal industry. Part of my job is to handle reporting requests from the marketing department and they can be quite varied. This causes a lack of reporting efficiency and keeps me from doing more analytical-based work as opposed to report writing.
We currently use Tableau & SAP (Web Intelligence) and most of the report requests are one-off items. The type of software I'd like to see developed would be what I call 'modular-based reporting for non-financial professionals'. A type of report writing software that allows non-financial individuals (i.e. marketing) to build what they need, when they need it. In other words, they would select their dimensions (ex. clients, matters, attorneys, client industry), measures (fees billed/collect, hours worked), and time period (this year, last year, etc). And in selecting these preset items, a report would automatically be built. A key part of this is making sure that these non-financial professional would need to worry about data sources and all the back-end work.
Given our recent purchases of other financial software, if the software is user-friendly enough, I would see our firm taking serious interest and hopefully purchasing. We've tried but there aren't currently any software programs out there that would fulfill this need. Our current means of dealing with this is to just create the report when it is needed.
