Startup Idea: On-Demand Tech Support Service for Less Tech-Savvy Users
I am 23 years old and recently graduated college. I often would have calls from my parents and grandparent trying to ask for help with technology, both for use and setting up, but often had trouble explaining this over the phone, and they would have difficulty translating what I said into actions on their computer or phone. They would also have similar issue when calling customer service. This is because people who did not grow up with technology often have a very different level understanding.
My idea is an Uber like app, where people could simply say they need help with a technology issue, and check off a few specifics on a checklist. This would notify workers in the area, who could then accept the job, and travel to the location of the person in need of help, where they could provide the assistance in person instead of over the phone. The workers would need minimal training, as younger people are usually capable of basic technology set ups and fixes, but a simple test could be used to screen people for a minimal level of capability. I think many young people would encourage their parents to sign up for this service, as they would rather not have to try to explain these issue over phone, or have to go do them their selves. I have not found anything like this, beyond calling customer service. When I try to help parents and grandparents in person I often find it goes much more quickly and smoothly than when I do it over phone, and everyone generally stays much more calm.
